2022 Summer Update

Psalm 90:14
Satisfy us in the morning with your faithful love
so that we may shout with joy and be glad all our days.

Hello from Cleveland. These summer days are going fast, but we wanted to update our family in Christ and acknowledge the good and meaningful things happening here.

Sunday morning continues to be a special time of worship and fellowship at CityView. Pastor Ken, Pastor Jesse, and I [Caleb] are taking turns preaching through the book of Ecclesiastes. We are reminded that life can be short and difficult, but the eternal God has demonstrated love for us in Christ. He is still calling people and changing lives. This summer, we are also back at Perk Plaza on Tuesday nights. While we are there to reach and bless new people, especially people in need of connection with Christ and community, we are also thankful for the number of people from the church family coming out, excited to participate in the fellowship and outreach.

With the teens at Thursday Bible study, we are working our way through the Bible and are now in the Psalms. Given that a number of attendees may have no other exposure to the Bible, we are looking at the big picture of how God relates to His people. Thursday night also involves a lot of sports, crafts, and a meal prepared by Julia. We are thankful for four adult leaders who sacrifice to help facilitate and mentor on Thursday evenings. Our group has been squeezing onto the front porch, but we welcome the problem of needing more room and are thankful for the camaraderie in Christ. Thirteen ladies went together to the Gospel Coalition Conference. Fifteen of the regularly attending students are going to spend a week at Camp Patmos this month. We thank God for the gifts that have made it possible for our kids to go to camp.

We are also thankful for the church space God has continued to provide for us, a space where we were recently able to host our first summer Bible club (VBS) downtown in collaboration with a visiting team. A total of 35 different kids/teens attended at least one day of the club, and it was an opportunity to connect with several from the Allerton building who used to attend our teen gathering pre-COVID. We pray that doors continue to be opened and that those with whom we have long-standing relationships in the surrounding apartment buildings would join our church family.

On a personal note, I [Caleb] am excited to switch my part-time job from piano instruction at the Avon School of Music to two days a week at the Garden Christian Academy. GCA is a classical Christian school in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood where I will be teaching music appreciation and music instruction classes. This work pairs well with the church ministry schedule and is an opportunity to serve the same local kids in a new and meaningful way.

We are so thankful to those who support us. We shout for joy in response to God’s faithful love expressed through you.

Caleb & Julia
